Garden Design Process
Our design process is phased and collaborative, working closely with our clients to achieve the garden you had always dreamed of. All projects and their circumstances are different, but a typical garden design project would follow the phased approach set out below.
-
An initial site consultation helps us understand your design aspirations and needs for the garden. It also allows us to assess the existing garden’s character and any challenges. After this, we will provide a full project proposal outlining the design process, design fees and a clear list of design objectives for your garden.
Initial Site Consultation Cost £100
(for sites within 1hr travel time of LS29) -
We will visit the site to conduct a thorough site analysis and photographic survey. For larger or complex gardens, we may hire a trusted local surveyor for a topographic survey. For smaller gardens, we can take simple measurements ourselves using our own equipment.
-
We will create a concept design for the garden that outlines the overall layout, zones and atmosphere. This includes mood boards and visualizations to show how the garden could look. This phase focuses on ideas rather than specifics. We will then meet to present and discuss the concept design.
-
After the concept is approved, we create a package of technical drawings illustrating layout, material set out, levels, lighting, cross-sections and any custom construction details. This detail design package can be handed to a contractor for pricing and construction.
-
We prepare a planting plan and list that shows plant locations, names, sizes, and quantities to help with costing, ordering, and set out. A plant mood board is also included to give you an idea of how the planted areas will look.
-
The tender package is prepared and sent to contractors to price. Assistance is available with this, or you are free to choose your own contractor. Once work begins on site, site administration can be provided with visits to monitor progress, handle changes, answer contractor queries and ensure everything follows the plans. Plants will be personally set out when the hard works are finished.
